The holiday season is rapidly approaching this year, and many stores are in search of seasonal employees. Do you need a little extra holiday cash? How do you know if a seasonal job is right for you? With many seasonal jobs, positions are usually available starting now and can last, in some cases, until February, if not later.

If you haven't been successfully scared this Halloween, then you obviously haven't been to Plantation Blood. No matter what scares you, Plantation Blood is guaranteed to have it. John Carter, owner of Plantation Blood, has been in the haunted house business for awhile, opening this one in 2000, according to the Plantation Blood Web site.

Play teaches life lessons through comedy

Comedy takes stage at the Maxwell Theatre with the fall production of "You Can't Take It With You," a story meant to teach a few lessons while having a good laugh. The play, written by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman, tells the rich boy, Tony Kirby, who falls in love with the middle class girl, Alice Sycamore.

New witches of Eastwick won't last long

Parts once filled by Cher, Susan Surandon and Michelle Pheiffer have been replaced and a 1987 film has been slightly revamped and brought to our televisions weekly thanks to ABC, but the series "Eastwick" brings nothing but disappointment. Many remember the 1987 film "The Witches of Eastwick" fondly.

Tradition connects Augustans with the visual arts for almost ten years

Saxophones, guitars and drums boom through downtown Augusta every first Friday of the month. No matter the weather, downtown Augusta welcomes First Friday guests with open arms and lots of entertainment. Melissa Sherwood, community program director for the Greater Augusta Arts Council, said that First Friday originally started to be an easy stroll down Broad Street.

Oct. 27, 1904: That afternoon, New York City Mayor George McClellan takes the control of the inaugural run of the city's innovative new rapid transit system: the subway. Although London has the world's oldest underground train network (opened in 1863) and Boston built the first subway in the United States in 1897, the New York City subway soon became the largest American system.

German professor teaching physics at Augusta State

At first, his accent is barely noticeable. After a few minutes though, it becomes obvious that Hauke Busch, assistant professor of Physics, is from a foreign country. Born in Hamburg, Germany, Busch came to the U.S. in the early 80s as a high-school exchange student.

'A Lion Among Men' is cowardly no more

In The Wizard of Oz, readers are introduced to Dorothy who travels down the yellow brick road to get to the city of Oz. Joining her on this journey is the Tinman, the Scarecrow and the Cowardly Lion. In the book A Lion Among Men readers get a look into the life of Brrr, or the Cowardly Lion as he later became known, how he became known as the Cowardly Lion and how he overcame that title.

Crafts, nonprofits, and more available at First Friday

First Friday draws hundred of people downtown every month and street vendors are raking in the benefits. According to the Downtown Development Authority of Augusta Web Site, First Friday sees an annual attendance of 120,000. One of the biggest draws of this monthly event seems to be the street vendors that collect along Broad Street in an effort to sell their wares and promote services within the community.

Musicians display talents on Broad

Music can be heard for miles during First Friday, but Aaron Chile's smooth saxophone cuts through the crowd. Chiles, who works as an Electrical Engineer by day, has become as master of sorts when it comes to First Friday. He has played the event since August.
