SGA President Andre Goodman said he has only driven a car to campus for one semester of his college career. He bought a parking decal that semester, and to this day, the glue from the sticker still remains on his mom's car.

A contest has begun for students to design a new parking decal that will hang from the rearview mirror rather than a sticker that often leaves traces of glue even after it has been peeled off.

"I bought a decal in 2006," Goodman explained. "The glue is still on the car. I think students will prefer rearview mirror decals."

Submissions are due by Nov. 12, to SGA Senator Kyle Hodge, whose committee (Student Welfare Committee) is addressing the problem.

The decal that wins will preferable show the most Augusta State University school spirit. The person who designs the winning decal will win $125 on his Jag Card.

Hodge, a freshman political science major, said he thinks the hanging decal is a good idea.

"Well, I think that hanging (decal) idea (is a good one) for our campus more so than anywhere else, because at Augusta State), the parking is more limited. There's a possibility of cars breaking down; you never know what comes up."

SGA is currently in the process of assigning a committee to investigate the parking issue as a whole and may eventually opt for a full-scale parking fee that is added to student's tuition and may include a campus-wide shuttle.

If that goes into effect, the hanging decals will benefit students because everyone, including people who don't drive to campus, will have to buy a hanging decal that will follow them, even if they decide to bring a different car to school.

Hodge said he thinks the contest will help get students involved in campus activities, including SGA.
