The Study Abroad program will be offering a trip to Scotland that will allow students to take all three of their required wellness classes during the three-week trip.
The Scotland trip will be the first study abroad trip devoted only to Wellness classes.
"The study abroad program in Scotland is one of the most unique opportunities in the whole university system," said Holly Carter, the assistant vice president for international affairs at Augusta State University. "The ability to earn all of your wellness credits in such an amazing place is unheard of. Students will learn from the best and have access to world class golf and soccer while they learn the sports," she said.
In addition to golf and soccer, students will also take Wellness 1000.
Graeme Connolly, a Scotland native, and Karen Wish, both from the Kinesiology and Health Science Department at Augusta State, will be teaching the courses. The trip will last from May 10, 2009 through June 1, 2009.
"I would encourage students to think about the value of both the travel portion of the trip and the educational value," Carter said.
The application deadline for the trip is Dec. 15, 2008, and students must put down a $200 deposit by this deadline.
According to James Mayes, a student assistant in the Study Abroad office, there are many ways that students can get money for the trip.
"Most people pay for their trips by participating in the programs that Study Abroad offers," he said.
These programs include fundraisers, selling raffle tickets, working the concession stands at sporting events and scholarships.
"We encourage people to start thinking about this trip, visiting the Study Abroad office, and to put in their applications early," Carter said. "You could go on this study abroad program and come back to ASU with more wellness credits than you could ever earn in a summer!"
