The SGA welcomed three new judicial cabinet members. They were approved by the senate on March 6.

Charles Lyons, a junior history major who previously campaigned for Solicitor General, Harold Jones, current secretary of the anthropology club, and Miriam Townsend, a sophomore double major in French and political science who is the president of the political science club and a member of Alpha Mu Gamma, were sworn into the judicial cabinet. Tyler Bugg, a freshman political science major, was also sworn in but is considered a non-active member because he lacks an institutional GPA.

Lyston Skerritt, judicial chair, said Bugg did not meet the requirement because this is his first semester at Augusta State University, having transferred from another university. Bugg will remain an inactive member until he receives an institutional GPA.

Bugg said he believes all students on campus should be involved with SGA or other organizations.

"Having other personal things is not an excuse for not being involved on campus," Bugg said. "Because when you look at it, this campus and this school is for the students, and without the students, it would not exist.

"Really student involvement in club organizations and involvement in how the campus is run is really benefiting them. So to not be involved is almost like throwing it off to the side, and really, if you have something to complain about or you don't like how something is being run in the school, well, is it because you are not involved in how it is being run."

Bugg said he plans to attend law school and work either as an attorney or in public administration.

Lyons and Townsend said they are ready to take on new challenges as active members of the Judicial Cabinet.

"I want to bring about student rights…let the students know what we do and know their rights," Lyons said.

Townsend said she believes her interactions with Europeans and their points of view have helped develop her own views. She said she hopes that the Cabinet can develop into something different than the normal American government.
