Outside tables provide relaxation

Debbie Bowick sits in the same place on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Where is this place, and who is this person?
This place is the outside area of the Jaguar Student Activities Center. It is decorated with brick flooring and large windows that peer into the inside world of the cafeteria. Bowick is a senior criminal justice major at Augusta State University who takes advantage of the area during its quieter times, mainly midmorning.
"If I have a test or paper to write, I sit out here, drink coffee and have a smoke break," Bowick said. "But if it is raining, I'll sit inside."
For other students, like Jane Todd, a sophomore history major, and Amanda Aragon, a junior art major, who sit at the same corner table every day, it is a place to people-watch and relax. These two said they enjoy their time at this spot but can also make light of the situation.
"When we sit out here, we like to catch up on the good old days and reflect on good times," Todd said with a hint of sarcasm.
Todd sits with Aragon during smoke breaks to keep her company.
"I usually like to sit out here to keep the smokers from feeling alienated," he said.
The two usually gather other friends at this familiar table regardless of the weather.
This part of campus serves other purposes over the year as well. It houses the grills for the school Pigout, advertises through chalk markings by Greek life and boasts a view of the major buildings on campus.
Sometimes it's just a place to take advantage of being outdoors.
Other students use the area as an escape.
"I like the shade from the umbrellas on the tables, especially when there are too many people trying to find a place to sit inside," said Brooke Hunter, an undeclared freshman
