Cigars, club sandwiches and grass are some of the things I experienced at the 2009 Masters during the first day of practice rounds.

On Monday, April 7 I ventured out on a chilly and windy day. Earlier that morning, I heard rain outside my window and thought that the day was going to be a total washout, but thankfully, the sun appeared.

I arrived at the Family Y around 9:45 a.m. to meet up with a friend who was going with us. We parked the car at an acquaintance's house and headed off to the course.

When we arrived at the parking lot outside the gate, we bought little badges for our tickets. When we finally arrived at the gate, I was so excited. Before we could enter, I had to sign my life away to make sure that if something bad happened to me, I would not sue.

When we were finally past "airport security," I was able to soak up the atmosphere.

When I looked around the place, it almost had a Disney-like feel to it. It showed on the people's faces, as I saw thousands of people checking out their souvenirs at the cash register.

As I made my way to the course, the first thing I saw was the famous scoreboard. The grass was so green and so perfectly short. It reminded me of a buzz-cut that I got in early January, only my hair was not green. As I made my way around the course, I then fully understood why we are called the "City on the Hill." Any way you go, you were either going up a hill or down a hill.

My next destination was Amen Corner, which is where you can see the 11th, 12th and 13th holes.

The flowers and plants around Amen Corner were full of beautiful pinks, purples and greens.

I also got to meet a crazy golf fanatic, Tom from Portland, who was enjoying his 13th visit to the Masters.

He is well-known for taking pictures during the tournament, and told us a story about how he sneaked into the Masters one day, which will get you a lifetime ban from the tournament if you ever get caught.

As noon approached, I started getting hungry, so we decided to get something to eat at the concession stand.
