The Augusta State University softball team took on the Armstrong Atlantic Pirates April 4, where one of the Lady Jags was honored on Senior Day.
Angela Francis-Verbeleen took the stage on Senior Day and was the only senior the team had. There were signs around the outfield fence saying "Angii Day" and "We Love Angii." Verbeleen was escorted onto the field with her mother and father and given flowers. The Lady Jags split with the Pirates losing game one 6-0 but bouncing back for a win in game to 3-1
After 39 games so far this season, Verbeleen, a health sciences major, has started in every single one of them. She has a .326 batting average and also leads the team in runs scored, with 39.
Not only is Verbeleen successful on the field, but also in the classroom. She currently carries a 3.93 GPA. After graduation, Verbeleen plans to attend PA school at the University of Florida.
Verbeleen has enjoyed her career as an Augusta State softball player and said "I'm going to miss my teammates the most because of the close friendships we have shared and the memories that I will never forget."
When asked if she has any advice to leave behind for her teammates, she responded by saying "Never give up, follow your dreams, and live every moment of every day because you never know when your time is up."
Verbeleen said she believes that she will miss the workouts the most, because even though they were tough, they kept her in shape.
The Lady Jags Softball team has a record of 24-15 overall with a 6-6 conference play record. They begin the Peach Belt conference tournament April 17-19.
