"The markup in price pays for everything that has to deal with the bookstore," Neely said. "Whatever profits that are made over at the ASU bookstore goes back to the University. We are self-supporting here on campus; we do not get campus funds."

Neely claimed that the profits better the students, operate the bookstore and allow the campus to develop and grow.

In certain departments, instructors can pick any book for their students, expensive or not.

"[Instructors] have an itinerary for what they want to do in that class and what knowledge they want to bring to their students, so they can choose any book within their realm to do it," Neely added.

The bookstore's job is to place an order for the instructor so that the student can have the book for class in a timely manner.

"We want to be successful for the students. If we can get the cheapest book on the shelf, we will do everything we can to do it and we will work with the instructor in getting that there," Neely said. .
