Recently, students at Augusta State University have been receiving e-mails alerting them about a survey, which if completed, comes with a chance to win some prizes.

The Reese Library conducted the LibQual + survey, which ran from the beginning of March to April 2.

There are more than 1,000 libraries that have participated in this survey, including: college libraries and academic law libraries, according to David Green, library relations coordinator for statistics and assessment for the Association of Research Library.

"LibQual + is not just known nationally," Green said. "LibQual + has expanded internationally with participating institutions in Africa, Australia, Asia and Europe."

This is the second time that the Reese Library has participated in the survey dating back to 2006, said Camilla Reid, director of the Reese Library.

Reid said that the library planned to participate in the survey every three years.

"We had planned to do the survey in 2009," Reid said. "But the budget was so bad last year, that we didn't have the money to do it."

Reid said she was glad that she asked for funding for the survey this year, because she does not know what the funding will be for next year or the years to come. She also said she hoped to conduct the survey on a pattern.

According to Reid, the most interesting part of the survey is finding out what other colleges in the region wanted in the 2006 survey.

"A lot of colleges in the University System of Georgia did it at the same time," Reid said. "So, we had information to compare between the libraries, and you can request to see who did the survey at the same time, with their permission."

According to Green, LibQual + is always changing, and the interesting part to him is the project that would expand a tool called the Analytic.

"Analytic is a tool that permits participants to dynamically create institution-specific tables and charts for different sub-groups and across years," Green said. "The current interface grants access to 2004 through the present statistical data."
